What a Jaylen Brown trade to the Portland Trail Blazers could look like
A potential trade framework involving Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown and the Portland Trail Blazers has surfaced. NBA insider Evan Sidery outlines what a deal between the two teams could look like, with Boston receiving significant youth and draft compensation in return.

The framework would leave Boston younger and more flexible financially
The Celtics made a run at Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier this month, dangling Brown as a centerpiece of their offer, before the Bucks ultimately shipped Giannis to the Miami Heat. That process put Brown’s availability on the table, and The Athletic’s Sam Amick had already reported that Portland would have “serious interest” in Brown if Boston made him available.
Brown has three full seasons left on his supermax extension and is owed $57 million in 2026-27. His Celtics tenure has run parallel to Jayson Tatum’s, but with Tatum dealing with left knee issues following his return from a ruptured Achilles, Boston’s immediate championship window is complicated.

According to this proposed trade, the package is a mix of young upside and future assets. Clingan, the 7-foot-2 center the Blazers selected out of UConn in the 2024 draft, is 22 years old and one of the more coveted young bigs in the league.
Henderson, also 22, played just 36 games in 2025-26 due to a torn left hamstring but averaged 14.2 points and 3.3 assists when available.
Grant averaged 18.6 points and would provide a veteran wing for Brad Stevens’ roster, though he has two years and roughly $70 million remaining on his contract. The 2028 first via the Magic (acquired in a separate deal with Memphis) and the 2030 Bucks swap (from the Damian Lillard trade) are two of Portland’s most significant lottery assets.
The Celtics want to remain competitive around Tatum, which means draft picks alone will not close the deal. Portland would likely resist parting with Clingan, who figures to be a centerpiece of their own long-term build.
Brad Stevens said Tuesday that Brown is “a big part of us,” and that everything the Celtics do is built around Brown and Tatum, though he did not rule out a trade.
