The Chicago Bulls made another trade on Wednesday, just a day before the trade deadline, as the team traded guard Coby White and veteran guard Mike Conley Jr. to the Charlotte Hornets.

The Bulls acquired guard Collin Sexton, forward Ousmane Dieng, and three second-round draft picks in return for White and Conley, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

White, who is about to turn 26 later this month, has been with the Chicago Bulls since the team drafted him seventh overall in the 2019 draft. This season, White averaged 18.6 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.7 rebounds in 29 games for the Bulls despite calf injuries.

Conley, on the other hand, never suited up for the Bulls as he was traded to the team just a few days ago as part of a three-team trade. The 37-year-old veteran guard averaged 4.4 points and 2.9 assists off the bench for Minnesota this season.

Conley might get waived by the Hornets and rejoin the Minnesota Timberwolves as he has been traded twice.

Chicago Continues Backcourt Overhaul After Vucevic Trade

The Chicago Bulls continue to make significant changes to the team’s roster as the trade deadline draws near. The team acquired guards Jaden Ivey, Anfernee Simons, and Conley just a day before the trade deadline through a series of trades involving Nikola Vucevic and Kevin Huerter.

Leaving them with a surplus of backcourt players. The team now includes Giddey, Dosunmu, Jones, Ivey, Simons, and Sexton. The Bulls also received three more second-round picks in the trade.

Sexton gives the Bulls a much-needed scoring punch off the bench. Sexton has averaged 13.7 points and 3.0 assists per game this season, mostly off the bench. He also shoots 39.3 percent from three-point range. Sexton was originally traded to Charlotte from Utah during the offseason.

Dieng was traded to the Bulls as part of a second trade. The Hornets originally acquired forward Ousmane Dieng and a second-round draft pick from Oklahoma City for Mason Plumlee.

Hornets Add Scoring Punch During Seven-Game Win Streak

The Hornets are riding a seven-game winning streak as they approach this trade. They are gaining momentum as they fight for a spot in the play-in tournament, currently second in the league in both offense and defense during the winning streak.

White joins the Hornets, a team with a young core. White developed from a scoring specialist as a rookie for the Bulls to a more well-rounded player. In his last 182 games, all as a starter, he averaged 19.5 points, 4.8 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game, shooting 44.8 percent overall.

The trade also gives the Hornets a hometown favorite. White grew up in Wilson, North Carolina, where he was the all-time leading scorer in the state’s high schools. White played one year at the University of North Carolina before the Bulls drafted him.

It’s clear that Charlotte’s front office recognizes this as an opportunity to build on their current success. White’s expiring contract gives them flexibility while providing instant production. Conley, if he re-signs, provides veteran leadership to their young roster that’s trying to push for a playoff spot.
