Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was asked at the Manning Passing Academy in Thibodaux to name the one game he is looking forward to most in 2026. He answered without hesitation.

“Louisiana State University.”

He provided context when pressed. “Lane Kiffin is at LSU now, Weis is at LSU now, and some of our former players that were on the team last year are at LSU. It’s starting to be a pretty heated rivalry now, too. Pretty excited about that,” per On3’s Wilson Alexander.

Kiffin coached Chambliss for one season in Oxford in 2025 before leaving for Baton Rouge. Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. followed him. Several Ole Miss players transferred to LSU in the offseason portal. The game is scheduled for September 19 in Oxford at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, 6:30 PM on ABC, and is expected to draw ESPN’s College GameDay with potential CFP implications for both programs.

Chambliss described the atmosphere he expects from Oxford that night.

“Honestly, wilder and crazier than any other game that we had last year,” he said. “I’ve heard that they might need SWAT, which would be crazy. But, Oxford’s going to be electric.” He acknowledged the challenge of not letting the buildup consume his preparation. “Just make it a regular game. I can’t let it get too big. I can’t make it be like the Super Bowl, or you know, a playoff game. It’s a regular season game. Yes, there’s probably going to be playoff implications for that game. So, just got to make sure we’re sharp.”

On Kiffin personally, Chambliss was appreciative rather than antagonistic.

“Super grateful for coach Weis and for the staff that was at Ole Miss that’s now at LSU. They gave me an opportunity. They gave me a shot. Super excited to go against them.”

Chambliss transferred to Ole Miss from Division II Ferris State and threw for 3,937 yards and 22 touchdowns in his first SEC season. The Rebels reached the CFP semifinal.

New head coach Pete Golding has maintained roster continuity around Chambliss, who enters 2026 as a Heisman Trophy candidate. LSU will counter with Sam Leavitt, who transferred from Arizona State. The Week 3 matchup is already the most discussed game on both programs’ schedules heading into the fall.
