‘So Hard to Believe a Black Man’: Security Restraints Deontay Wilder During Heated Argument Involving Tyson Fury Question

'So Hard to Believe a Black Man': Security Restraints Deontay Wilder

Former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder walked out of the talkSPORT studio on Feb 4 following an explosive argument with talkSPORT host Simon Jordan. The 40-year-old was scheduled to promote his fight against Derek Chisora on Apr 4 at the O2 Arena in London.

Wilder was unhappy about past cheating allegations against Tyson Fury during their trilogy fights. He stood up and approached Simon Jordan as security restrained the heavyweight fighter. Wilder had claimed days earlier during an interview with Ring Magazine that race was an underlying factor for the cheating accusations against Fury.

He also claimed that the long count by the referee, Jack Reiss, during their draw in 2018 was an example of white supremacy. This is not the first time Wilder has made headlines during media interviews following a string of unstable performances over the past year. He has lost two fights for every four wins over his last six fights.

Wilder Threatens to Leave Before Walking Out

'So Hard to Believe a Black Man': Security Restraints Deontay WilderWilder’s argument started when Simon Jordan brought up Fury’s name during the talkSPORT interview.

Wilder immediately took offense to the question. “I don’t want to talk about him. We’re here about Derek Chisora, we are not going to talk about him at all, understand that,” Wilder claimed.

Simon Jordan then brought up the cheating allegations against Fury during their trilogy fights. Wilder denied the accusation about Fury’s ring walk costume but claimed to have made the other cheating accusations.

Jordan found these theories to be disappointing. She called them flaky. Wilder shot back.

“You can say that, I know the truth, I have the facts,” he shouted while standing. Security placed themselves between Wilder and Jordan as the former champion walked towards the host. “I don’t give a f*** about that! I said we didn’t want to bring him up in the first place, it ain’t got s*** to do with him!” Wilder shouted before exiting the studio.

Race and Credibility Questions Surface Ahead of Interview

In an interview with Ring Magazine on Feb 2, Wilder opened up about why he thinks people believe him when he says he was cheated out of victories.

“Being a black man with dark skin, it’s harder to believe me than a white man,” Wilder revealed. Wilder believes that referee Jack Reiss gave Fury an extra 15 seconds of recovery time during their first fight’s tenth-round knockdown.

“In that first fight, the referee, that’s white supremacy. You know what he said? He did what he thought was best for boxing. No, your job is to count his a** out.”

Wilder believes he has proof that Fury cheated during two of their three fights. He has promised to reveal this proof in a documentary. “When I do my movie about it, it’s gonna be presented,” he said. Wilder has dared Fury to sue him for defamation if what he’s saying is untrue. Fury has not taken him up on this challenge.

The breakdown between the two began even before the actual interview started. Chisora, an ally of Fury, came with a cardboard cutout of his fighter and even proposed that Wilder pose for a photo with it.

Wilder responded with a crude comment, according to Boxing247. Fury spoke out against Wilder one day prior to the actual incident, which involved an Instagram post from Fury. He talked about his own defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.

“You don’t hear me crying and moaning about it, saying someone cheated. That’s not me. There’s no point crying over spilt milk,” Fury said.

Wilder is set to face Chisora at a time when both men are trying to extend their careers. Chisora has won his last three fights, while Wilder has lost to Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker since his trilogy with Fury ended in 2021. His last victory came in Jun 2024, when he knocked out Tyrrell Anthony Herndon.
