Jonathon Cooper and girlfriend both arrested in domestic dispute Thursday
Denver Broncos edge rusher Jonathon Cooper was arrested on Thursday night and booked into a Douglas County detention facility at 2:38 a.m. Friday. He faces two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief, according to TMZ Sports.
His girlfriend was also arrested and is facing charges of criminal mischief and domestic violence, according to 9NEWS Broncos insider Mike Klis.
An arrest affidavit obtained by 9NEWS states that the incident started over a dispute about Cooper’s cell phone.
His girlfriend tried to take the phone, Cooper tried to keep it, and the situation escalated. The initial call came in at 11:16 p.m. Thursday. Cooper’s bond was set at $1,000. He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday morning, with another hearing set for next week, Monday.
The charges against Cooper include one count of domestic violence summons and complaint, one standard domestic violence count, and one count of criminal mischief valued between $300 and $1,000.
The team’s statement was brief.

“We are aware of the matter and gathering more information,” the Broncos said.
Cooper, 28, was a seventh-round pick from Ohio State in the 2021 NFL Draft. He became one of the team’s stronger defenders. He signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension in November 2024.
In 2025, he recorded eight sacks and 50 combined tackles over all 17 regular season games, earning a starting position in Sean Payton’s defense.
No charges have been resolved. Both Cooper and his girlfriend are presumed innocent. His next court date is Monday.
