Terence Crawford makes a bold claim about Shakur Stevenson ahead of Spence-Tszyu weekend
Terence Crawford, boxing’s undisputed pound-for-pound number one and a fighter with his own case for being the best in the world, was asked by Fight Hub TV to assess Shakur Stevenson’s chances against anyone in the sport.
“Everybody is beatable, but I don’t see nobody beating him,” Crawford said.
Stevenson is a three-division world champion at 28 years old
Crawford explained the reasoning behind the claim by pointing to Stevenson’s habits away from the ring rather than anything measurable in a fight itself.
“Shakur takes his craft serious,” Crawford said. “He’s the type of fighter that you have to pull out the gym. He don’t want to not be in the gym.” Crawford separately told the outlet that when he considers who is positioned to lead boxing once his own career ends, Stevenson is the answer without hesitation. “Yeah, I think Shakur for sure. Shakur hands down. I think, given the opportunity, he’s going to show the world that he’s the best.”
Stevenson has described Crawford as his “big brother” repeatedly in interviews, and the two have a documented history that includes sparring sessions Stevenson has called the most humbling experience of his career. “This dude beat me up so bad,” Stevenson said of an early sparring session with Crawford. “I swear to God, that was the worst ass-whooping that I ever had as a fighter.” Stevenson has also publicly urged Crawford toward retirement following his win over Canelo Alvarez in September 2025, telling Ariel Helwani he did not want to watch his mentor absorb any more punishment. “He made one of the best fighters of our generation look average. I think it’s time to retire on a high horse.”

Stevenson enters 2026 as a three-division world champion out of Newark, New Jersey, and a 2016 Olympic silver medalist. CBS Sports’ boxing panel named him a candidate to claim the pound-for-pound throne in 2026, pointing to his January bout against Teofimo Lopez Jr. as a potential launching point for that ascent.
Crawford’s comments were made in the context of a broader Fight Hub TV promotion ahead of the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Tim Tszyu middleweight card, which aired Saturday, July 25, from Afterpay Arena in Sydney, Australia, on PBC pay-per-view via DAZN and Prime Video.
Spence, who lost to Crawford by ninth-round TKO in July 2023, was returning to the ring after a three-year layoff.
