Ravens Pull Out of Blockbuster Maxx Crosby Trade Deal After Failed Physical

Maxx Crosby

Four days. That’s how long the Baltimore Ravens held onto their agreement to acquire Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby before calling it off Tuesday night. The 28-year-old, a fourth-round pick out of Eastern Michigan in 2019, is a five-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro with a career-high 28 tackles for loss in 2025 alone.

Baltimore had agreed to send two first-round picks to Las Vegas: the 14th overall selection in 2026 and a 2027 first. Instead, the Raiders issued a blunt statement that closed the deal without explanation.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted the full Raiders statement on X Tuesday night.

“The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of our trade agreement for Maxx Crosby. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Shortly after the statement dropped, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on X: “Maxx Crosby did not pass his physical today, per sources. The Ravens get their first round picks back.”

All NFL trades remain pending physicals until official. Because the 2026 league year does not begin until Wednesday, March 11 at 4 p.m. ET, no deal in this window could be finalized before that.

Crosby had traveled to Baltimore on Tuesday for the examination. Once it was over Baltimore made the call to walk away.

A Full Meniscus Repair, Not a Trim, Sits at the Center of Baltimore’s Decision

The concern traces directly to Crosby’s knee. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport had reported in December that Las Vegas placed Crosby on injured reserve after he tore his left meniscus, with surgery to follow.

What the Ravens found appears to be more serious than publicly understood. Per Pro Football Rumors, a report surfaced last month indicating Crosby had undergone a full meniscus repair, not the less invasive trim that was initially described.

Crosby had the surgery on Jan 7. On his podcast he gave his own timeline: “We’re going to f–king crush this rehab better than any of the rehabs we’ve done before. I know I’ll be back in June, around that time, fully.”

Speaking separately to RG.org, Crosby described what he had been dealing with during the season: “I played this whole year on a torn meniscus and was still able to get some career records. Most TFLs I’ve had.”

Crosby recorded 10 sacks, 28 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and an interception in 2025 before the Raiders shut him down prior to Week 17.

Multiple Teams Circle as Crosby’s Trade Market Reopens With Urgency

Baltimore walking away puts Crosby squarely back on the market the same week free agency opens. Source reported Tuesday that the Cincinnati Bengals have immediate renewed interest. The Cowboys had reportedly been willing to send a first and a second before the Ravens outbid them last Friday. The Eagles are also watching, according to a source, too.

The Ravens, having kept significant cap space reserved for Crosby’s contract, now have roughly $35.791 million freed up. That money needs to go somewhere quickly.

The Raiders, meanwhile, have already made clear they are not lowering their asking price. Their rebuild around the No. 1 overall pick is moving fast. Which team will ultimately choose to absorb both his medical risk and his price tag?
