Some losses demand an explanation. The New York Knicks gave Philadelphia one they’re going to have a hard time explaining away.

The Knicks beat the 76ers 137-98 at Madison Square Garden on Monday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Jalen Brunson led the way with 35 points on 12-of-18 shooting. OG Anunoby shot 7-of-8. Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns combined for 34 points on 21-of-29 from the field.

New York shot 63.1 percent from the floor and 51.4 percent from three-point range.

Paul George, the veteran Philadelphia forward who finished as the team’s leading scorer with 17 points in 26 minutes, didn’t walk out of that arena looking broken. Per the SNY Knicks video account, he said exactly what he had to say.

George’s message after the blowout signals Philadelphia still believes in this series

“We had breakdowns tonight, but they also shot the s–t out of the ball. They were hot, they came out hot, they came out on fire. But it’s a game of adjustments, we’ll make adjustments. They don’t get any extra points for going up big tonight,” George said.

The 76ers closed out a seven-game first-round series against the Boston Celtics just 48 hours before this tip-off.
